The Milky Way Atlas

The Milky Way Atlas

The Milky Way, our home Galaxy, is a large concentration of gas, dust, and a few hundred billion stars. Our star, the Sun, is one among them. The Milky Way is called a spiral galaxy for its spiral arms, where much of the gas is concentrated.

After an overview of the data groups, we will lead you through the Milky Way Atlas in a series of self-guided tutorials, then provide a reference for each data group.

If the Milky Way Atlas runs slowly on your computer, please jump ahead to “Optimizing the Milky Way Atlas” for solutions to improve this problem.
